How does that make you feel?: angryangry

Excuse the ranting to come! I was saving posting for some great news, but right now I am not in the mood for that, it'll have to wait another day or so. I just got on-line and Sheena sent out an email update that made my jaw drop. I went instantly to check at mugglenet, hpana, google and finally warner brothers.

"Warner Bros. has just announced that the release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been pushed back and will be released on July 17, 2009 instead of this coming November. This news has been confirmed with Warner Bros. by HPANA.

Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros. stated:

Our reasons for shifting Half-Blood Prince to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move Half-Blood Prince to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.

Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed:

The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. Post-production on Half-Blood Prince was completed on time, and the studio’s release plans for the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between Half-Blood Prince and the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

While producer David Heyman offered:

When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer.

I have been on the moon about my upcoming trip to London. Just yesterday I bought an amazing dress. One of the main reasons I was going to London was to go to the premiere (and maybe see Alan Rickman). I can't believe it! Months of planning and saving and begging/pleading at work to fix my schedule so that I can go. Even having to find a travel companion, for what? I called the travel agency and they said that they just found out an hour ago. I'll have to wait until Monday to see what our final plans are.

/rant

P.S.- Forgive the typos. I didn't go back to check, I can't be bothered right now. Off to cry some more.

Edit- I came back to fix the typos and post links to petitions.

Edit2- My brother called Warner Bros. studio for me. He was transfered multiple times before finally he was given an email address of a guy who is supposed to be able to address this issue.

I just posted this too!

I thought of you when I read it because you've been so excited (and me envious) of your trip.

WB is really shooting themselves in the foot with this.

I can only imagine.

I don't understand it at all especially with Entrertainment Weekly running the movie on the cover of their Fall Movie Guide.

THis is a BAD move on WB's part, BAD MOVE

I have this horrible empty feeling in the pit of my stomach. No throwing of any one under moving vehicles, except WB executives. Bastards.

It's no joke. http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/harrypotterandthehalf-bloodprince/

My initial response was "Never mind", but I didn't think of people like you who had planned a trip in order to attend the premiere. That's a terrible blow, indeed.

I'll probably still go, since I have already bought tickets to see Creditors and Billy Eliott, but I have to talk to the travel agency and find out what is going to happen with the rest of the trip.

I signed two petitions with you in mind; I said that people had made unalterable travel plans with the original release date in mind.

They are a bunch of greedy bastards. I think that we should call the studio and give them hell.

*hugs Monica*

Thanks for bringing petitions to my attention. I've gone and signed two just now.

My brother called the studio for me two or three hours ago. He got transfered about seven or eight times. We finally got a hold of someone who gave us an email address of some guy we should contact. Lets see if it helps.

Thanks for the hugs. Hugs back!

Have you posted the e-mail address?

We should absolutely JAM his inbox. I want to know his name so that I can ask for him when I call the studio tomorrow.

This is the email address that Warner Bros. gave us. Hopefully it is not a fake or dead end. Jam away. I'll update my post with it as well.

I'm still going to London since I've bought tickets to a couple of other shows, but I don't know if my friend is going to want to come now. I haven't even told her yet. I'm going to have to call her today.

It turned out that I forgot that she traded work days for me so that I could be off last night (to watch Bottle Shock). So she was asleep yesterday, worked last night, and sleeping today. I'll call her later today after she gets some sleep.
